Generational patterns, and the authority we have to break them.
Some of what we carry isn't ours. It was handed down to us. Maria walks through what Scripture actually says about generational sin, covenants, and blessing, and how to pray with real authority over your family line.
-
When God says do not be afraid, and you have no idea how.
Fear makes sense. It's normal, and it's living proof that this world is not our home. God says “do not be afraid” 81 times in the Bible, but how exactly are we meant to do that? When the one thing Maria had been praying against happened to her, God gave her a way through. In this talk, Maria shares her story to answer why we don't have to fear, how to fight it, and what to do when it comes back. Adapted from her book, Breaking the Fear Cycle.

Where a woman's identity actually comes from, and how to live like it.
We introduce ourselves by what we do. Mom, wife, job, ministry, the thing we happen to be good at. Then a role shifts or gets taken from us, and we don't know who we are anymore. Our identity was never meant to sit there. When it's fixed in who we are in Christ, everything else settles into place. In this talk, Maria shares the “how”. Not just the truth that you belong to God, but what pulling that off actually looks like every day.

I Can’t Do Small Talk.
ABOUT
My friends tease me because going straight to the heart is all I know how to do. That remains true on a stage.
I spent the early years of my life amassing fear and insecurity with little hope that change was possible. Then, when I was 20 years old, my 13-year-old brother Nick sent me a letter that said, "Maria I love you too much not to let you know about God's awesome love for you." I got on my knees that night and prayed to Jesus. I haven’t looked back since.
I've been in ministry for over 20 years, from youth ministry to women's ministry to global and local missions. Today, I serve as Executive Pastor at UCity | The Church in Charlotte, NC, where I preach regularly and help lead our second location inside a homeless day shelter in Concord. I’ve written two books with Revell and I'm currently working toward my Masters of Divinity.
My husband, Dave, and I met on the intramural flag football field at James Madison and have been married over twenty years. We have five children: Faith, David, Aaron, Sammy, and Gideon, who lives in heaven. I love dark chocolate, bold coffee, and flash mobs. A dance party breaking out in our living room is not unusual.
I have found that sharing my story not only helps me move forward, but also encourages others to find the courage to take their own next step. My mission is to draw us deep into the Word of God and to show us that all the answers we could ever need are right there.
